TREVOR
GLASER WINS #1 WESTERN
STATES
POINTS
CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
With one
point race remaining in
the Western States Dirt
Late Model rankings,
Trevor
Glaser has wrapped up
the title regardless of
what happens in this
weekend’s races at the
Las Vegas half-mile dirt
track. Second place
finisher Mike Johnson’s
number two spot is also
locked-in as he has
enough points to hold
off third place Rob
Mayea, regardless of
where Mayea finishes.
Rob
Mayea has an 8 point
lead over El Mirage,
Arizona driver who is
the only driver who can
pass Mayea in the battle
for the third spot.
Friday
night’s program will
feature time trials and
heat races to set the
field for Saturday
night’s
“Duel-in-the-Desert” 40
lap feature.
Saturday
night’s program will
feature the last chance
qualifying races plus
the 40 lap feature.
Four
years ago the late Gary
Jacob came up with a
formula to rank all the
Dirt Late Models drivers
in the 13 states that
make up the Western
States region. 2007
marked the first year
that an Oregon driver
has won the points
title.
After
winning the Super Sport
title at Willamette
Speedway in 1999 and
coming back to finish
4th in the 2000 Super
Sport point standings,
Glaser moved up to the
Outlaw Late Model
division in 2001 where
he finished 12th in
points. In 2002 Glaser
moved up to finish 5th
in the Outlaw Late Model
ranks and in 2003 Glaser
finished 3rd in the
Willamette Speedway
point standings behind
runner-up Bob Boyd and
track championship
winner Tory Swayngim.
The 2004 season saw
Glaser finish second to
Rob Mayea who became the
first driver to win the
Willamette Speedway
track title and the Bud
I-5 championship in the
same season. In 2005,
2006 and 2007 Glaser set
a record that may stand
a very long time as he
won 3 Willamette
Speedway track
championships and three
Bud I-5 titles.
I would
like to thank all of the
Oregon based drivers who
have made the long trips
to compete against many
of the top drivers in
the Dirt Late Models
from all across the
nation for many years.
You have given your
loyal fans in Oregon
something to be proud
of.
