Bloomquist Takes Sixth Lucas
Oil Late Model Dirt Series Win at Utica-Rome Speedway
|
|
VERNON,NY (July
29, 2010) - Defending series champion, Scott Bloomquist of
Mooresburg, TN withstood a one-lap shootout with Ray cook of
Brasstown, NC to win his sixth Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
event of the season. The win took place on Thursday Night at
Utica-Rome Speedway. Bloomquist earned $10,000 for the 492nd
win of his illustrious career. Cook, last year's series winner at
the track, finished second after starting in ninth. Eighteenth
starting Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA finished third, followed
by Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and John Blankenship of
Williamson, WV.
"Here tonight,
the car was about as perfect as it gets," exclaimed the 46-year-old
driver, "last year, after the American Racer tires beat us, Hoosier
went to work and had a great tire for us tonight. I wasn't really
nervous on that last restart, because I knew Ray would run me clean.
It would have been a shame to lose the race on the last lap after
the night we had".
Bloomquist
dominated the field for a majority of the race. He already held
nearly a half-a-lap lead over Cook when the caution came out with
seven laps to go. Bloomquist then had to be patient through two
more cautions in the final two circuits, setting up a one-lap dash
to the finish. As Cook tried valiantly to steal the win from
Bloomquist, he was able to outrun the #53 into turn one on the final
lap. He went on to score the win and extend his series points lead
over Jimmy Owens. The engine erupted in flames after the fuel line
came off on lap ten while Owens was running second, ending his
night.
"I have to
thank Bob and Barb Miller, Miller Brothers Construction, Hawkeye
Trucking, of course the Roush-Yates Engine ran superb, and all the
crew, Tommy (Hicks) and everybody else," said the winner. "They
[crew] do a great job, and with the tough competition on this series
you have to be on top of your game night in and night out to stay up
front. We gained a lot of points tonight on Jimmy and we look
forward to coming back up here. This is a very good race track and
the fans treated us just super".
Cook in the D&R
Racing owned MasterSbilt captured the win at Utica-Rome a year ago,
but could not quite overcome his ninth starting spot as he crossed
the line behind Bloomquist. McDowell in the Clint Bowyer Racing,
Dollar General sponsored Warrior Impala SS salvaged a credible night
after the battery lost power in his car during the heat race. He was
relegated to an outside ninth-row starting spot and came home third
followed by Pearson in the Bobby Labonte Racing; Lucas Oil Products
sponsored MasterSbilt Dodge Charger. Blankenship, in the Don
Blankenship, Coal America's Energy Rocket was fifth.
Completing the
top ten were Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY; Steve Casebolt of
Richmond, IN; Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN; Tyler Reddick of
Corning, CA; and Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI.
In preliminary
action, Bloomquist was the fastest qualifier among the 26 entrants
in the Red Buck Cigars Time Trials. Heat race winners were
Bloomquist, Pearson, and Blankenship. Dan Schlieper took the B-Main
win.
The Lucas Oil
Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action this Saturday Night,
July 31st at Frank Plessinger's Hagerstown Speedway in
Hagerstown, MD. The event will pay $10,000 to win. For more

Owens Takes Seventh Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Event
of the Season at Fonda
|
|
FONDA, NY (July
27, 2010) - Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN took the lead with ten laps
to go and then dominated the final laps to win the first ever LOLMDS
sanctioned event at Fonda Speedway. The win marked Owens' 20th
victory in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition ever. Vic
Coffey of Caledonia, NY kept the home state fans on their feet by
finishing second. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN, finished third
followed by series points' leader, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN and Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY.
"Man I didn't
know at the start if we picked the right tires or not, we dropped
back to sixth after starting on the front row, but I have to thank
Vic Coffey for showing me that outside line," exclaimed Owens. "I
was able to get the momentum I needed up there and once we caught up
to O'Neal and passed him, the car was awesome," said the 38-year-old
driver in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 20th time in his
career.
"I have to
thank my car owner, Mike Reece, Reece Monument Company, Gantte
Appraisals and Red Line Oil. I also want to thank Scott (Bloomquist)
for building a great race car, Cornett Engines and everybody on the
crew," said Owens.
The event was
the first Late Model Race at Fonda Speedway since 1982 and did not
lack any excitement. O'Neal bolted to the lead and led the first 39
laps of the race. He held off challenges from both Decker and
McDowell early on. Owens managed to make a late-race run to grab his
second consecutive series win.
Coffey, started
eighth in the Sweeteners Plus sponsored Rocket and put on a late
charge. He passed O'Neal for second with four laps to go. O'Neal in
the Superior Cleaning sponsored MasterSbilt had the strongest car
for most of the race as he had to fight off a late-race charge from
Bloomquist who placed a close fourth in the Miller Brothers
Construction, Bloomquist Race Cars entry. Decker in the Gypsum
Express Rocket gave the home state fans a thrill early on. He was
constantly challenging O'Neal for the lead in the early goings,
before fading to fifth at the finish.
Completing the
top ten were Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Dale McDowell of
Chickamauga, GA; Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Dan Stone of Thompson,
PA; and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.
O'Neal was the
Red Buck Cigar Fast Qualifier among the 23 entries. Heat race
winners were O'Neal, Owens and Decker. Dale Caswell captured the
B-Main.
The Lucas
Oil Late Model Dirt Series stays in the state of New York for a
second-ever visit to Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY. The event
will be held on Thursday Night, July 29th for a $10,000
to win main event. Ray Cook won the series' first ever event at the

July 27th the series will make its' first ever appearance at Fonda Speedway
in Fonda, NY, followed by a Thursday Night, July 29th visit to Utica-Rome

At all three venues, there will be a complete show for the Lucas Oil Late
Model Dirt Series with Wiles Driveshafts, AFCO Racing Products, Allstar
Performance, and SuperFlow Heat Races. Hawk Performance Brake Pads and

events each night.
With 25 events in the books for 2010, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series' reigning champion, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN is still holds
a 160-point advantage over Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN. Owens was able to cut
Bloomquist' lead down after winning his sixth series event of the season
this past Saturday Night in the CMH "Diamond Nationals" at Lucas Oil
Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Bloomquist saw his streak of six consecutive
top-five finishes end this past Saturday Night where he placed sixth, as
Owens chopped 50-points off his lead after Saturday's main event.
Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, the 4-time series champion, has
gained momentum in the points chase as he holds the third spot just
65-points behind Owens. Pearson, who had his series record-setting streak of
four consecutive wins broken Saturday Night finished third behind Owens and
Chris Wall of Springfield, LA in the CMH "Diamond Nationals." During his
recent hot-streak, Pearson became the all-time winningest driver in series
history with his 24th victory on Friday Night at Tri-City Speedway.
Pearson and teammate Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY both drive for 2000
NASCAR Cup Champion, Bobby Labonte, who will be making his 600th career
start in Cup racing this Sunday, July 25th in the "Brickyard 400" at
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Labonte won the event back in 2000 on his way
to the championship, which he won by 265 points over Dale Earnhardt.
Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC overcame a couple of disappointing qualifying
runs at Tri-City Speedway on Friday and at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday
bounced back nicely as he earned two top-ten runs at both tracks after
starting deep in the field. Cook, the 2010 DART Show-Me 100 winner currently
sits fourth in the championship points standings over fellow MasterSbilt
Race Cars driver, Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN.
Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, who drives for NASCAR's Clint Bowyer,
sits sixth in the championship points standings. He, like Cook, had to rally
both nights last weekend to secure a spot in the top ten. McDowell is
175-points ahead of Wall, who is coming off of a season-best second place in
the CMH "Diamond Nationals" and is seventh in points. Rounding out the
top-ten are Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI;
and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY.
Wall has stretched his Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" points lead to
190-points over Wells in the last few weeks. Marshfield, WI's Tim Isenberg
holds down the third spot.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has 14 drivers with perfect
attendance for the '10 season. Outside of the top ten in the current
championship point's standings, John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; Brad
Neat of Dunnville, KY; Isenberg; and 14-year-old Tyler Reddick of Corning,
CA have attended all the series events this year, and reside in positions
11th-14th in points.
The tire rule will be the same at all three race tracks and is as
follows; American Racer - SD44 or any compound harder - SD 44 must punch a
minimum of 40. Hoosier - 1300 or any compound harder - 1300 must punch a
minimum of 40.
On Tuesday Night, July 27th, Fonda Speedway "The Track of Champions" will
host the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for the first time at the Ric
Lucia-promoted facility. For more information on Fonda Speedway in Fonda,
NY, log onto the track's website at www.fondaspeedway.net or call (518)

Cook took home the victory a year-ago in the series' first-ever trip to the
State of New York. For more information on Utica-Rome Speedway, point your

Pearson Remains Unstoppable In Winning Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series Event at Tri-City Speedway
|
PONTOON
BEACH, IL (July 16th, 2010)- Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL
won a series record, fourth straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series event, tonight at Tri-City Speedway. He took home the
$10,000 payday in winning the "Budweiser 50". Pearson withstood a
mid-race challenge from several drivers as he went on to lead all 50
laps of the event. It was his seventh series win of the year.
Finishing second was Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR; followed by
series point's leader, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN.
Completing the top five were Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA and
Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN. Birkhofer managed to get by Owens as the
duo approached the finish line on the final lap.
"I want to thank all the fans for coming out tonight," exclaimed
Pearson in Lucas Oil Victory Lane, "I would like to give credit to
my crew for all of their hard work, and the guys back at the race
shop. I also want to thank Bobby Labonte, Lucas Oil Products, Red
Buck Cigars, Larry Wallace Racing Engines, and MasterSbilt Race
Cars."
In the early stages of the race, the top five set a blistering pace
with Pearson breaking away from the rest of the field. Pearson held
a comfortable lead over Bloomquist, Moyer, Chris Wall, and Don
O'Neal. It wasn't until a lap 21 caution for Tyler Reddick, that
the dynamics of the race changed for the remainder of the event.
After the restart, Pearson maintained his patented bottom shelf
around the track. Bloomquist and Owens found traction on the top
groove of the racing surface, allowing them to close in on Pearson
by the halfway mark. Moyer made it a three-car battle for second,
using the same line as Pearson. After starting tenth, Birkhofer made
a mid-race surge into the top five as he went around O'Neal on lap
31. In the waning laps of the event, Pearson managed to distance
himself from Moyer, who had passed Bloomquist with four laps to go
to take over the second spot.
Coming home in sixth was O'Neal of Martinsville, IN. Twenty-third
starting, Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA finished seventh. During
time trials, McDowell got into the wall coming off of turn four and
flipped his primary car. He went to a back-up car and was involved
in a wreck during his heat race. His crew managed to repair the
damage in time for him to take a series provisional for the main
event. John Blankenship of Williamson, WV finished eighth, followed
by Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI; and Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC.
In preliminary action, Earl Pearson Jr. set the Red Buck Cigars Fast
Time among the 42 entrants. Heat race winners were Pearson, Steve
Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Billy Moyer, and Don O'Neal. The B-Mains
were won by Bub McCool and Brad Neat.
Tonight's event will be featured as an hour-long broadcast on SPEED
at 1 PM (Eastern) on Saturday, August 7th.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action tomorrow
night, July 17th at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO for the

Appliancezone.com. The Appliance Zone Company, based in Corydon, Indiana,is
the fastest growing company in the online appliance parts industry.

top manufacturers of appliances, so the consumer can find and purchase any
appliance part to fix and repair their current appliances.
The Appliancezone.com partnership with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series will offer a unique "driver development contest" for five drivers
currently running on the LOLMDS tour in 2010. These five drivers will
compete for a 2011 primary sponsorship from Appliance Zone. The sponsorship
will award one driver a $70,000 cash sponsorship for the 2011 season. The
five drivers that will compete for this sponsorship include Steve Casebolt
from Richmond, IN, Ray Cook from Brasstown, NC, Don O'Neal from
Martinsville, IN, Jimmy Owens from Newport TN, and Chris Wall from Holden,
LA.Appliance Zone selected these five drivers based on their set criteria
that best fit the company's demographics and representation of their company
in 2011.
This unique contest will kick off at the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
sanctioned event on July 17th at the 4th Annual Diamond Nationals at Lucas
Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. The contest will consist of three parts with
drivers earning points based on finishes at each series event beginning July
17th until the final event on October 10th at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA. The
second part of the contest will include fan participation based on fan
voting at a special website page setup for fans to vote for their driver
they feel should be awarded the 2011 sponsorship.
Racefans can vote at
http://appliancezoneracing.com/Home/DriverDevelopmentContest.aspx for their
favorite driver or whom they think deserves the 2011 Appliance Zone
sponsorship. Each driver has a short bio listed on the voting page for race
fans to choose from and vote for the most deserving driver to be awarded the
$70,000 sponsorship.
The third part of the contest will consist of a special panel that will
vote for the driver they feel best deserves the 2011 sponsorship based on
accumulated points for the season and the fan voting results. This special
panel will consist of members from the media, celebrity panel guest such as
Clint Bowyer, Lucas Oil Representatives, and Appliance Zone representatives.
The driver that wins the contest will be announced during a special
presentation at the series year end awards banquet in November.
"Were really excited about Appliance Zone coming on board with the series
this year and putting together this great contest that will award a $70,000
sponsorship to a driver for the 2011 season. We've been working on this
program for some time now and were looking forward to kicking it off at
Lucas Oil Speedway on July 17th. This will be a great program that will
include the fans as well and hopefully generate new customers for Appliance
Zone through our series and the dirt late model industry", stated Ritchie
Lewis series director.
Appliance Zone will have a company display in the vendor midway with
computers linked to the internet to provide race fans the opportunity to
vote for their favorite driver at Lucas Oil Speedway the day of the event on
July 17th.
"Dirt track racing is a great fit for our 'pick up a tool and make
something good happen' brand that sells appliance parts to people fixing
their own appliances," said Jim Allen, ApplianceZone.com's CEO. "The Driver
Development Contest underscores our feeling that getting ahead in the world
requires hard work and perseverance. We have a strong 'You can do it!'
attitude around here and the guys at Lucas have done a good job helping us
bring that to life in their Late Model Dirt Series", stated Jim Allen..
The five drivers competing for the 2011 sponsorship will display
Appliance Zone decals for the remainder of the 2010 season and a link to the
fan voting page will be linked from the series website and each driver's
website. A special Appliance Zone point's page will be listed on the series
website for fans to keep up with the accumulated points after each event.

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series at Tri-City and Lucas Oil Speedway this Weekend
|
|
CORONA, CA
(July 12, 2010) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series roars back
into action with visits to Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL
for the "Budweiser 50" this Friday Night, July 16th and Lucas Oil
Speedway in Wheatland, MO for the "CMH Diamond Nationals" on
Saturday Night, July 17th. Both events will pay $10,000
to win and $700 to start and will be taped by the cameras of SPEED.
The Lucas Oil
Late Model Dirt Series is coming off of a very successful "Clash at
the Mag" this past weekend at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus,
MS. A record-setting crowd saw Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL
win his sixth series event of 2010. The event was also his third in
a row, and the 23rd of his career. Pearson is now in sole
possession of first place in all-time series wins, one ahead of
defending LOLMDS National Champion, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN.
Pearson will be
attempting to set an all-time series record with his fourth
consecutive victory on Friday Night. The event will be held at Kevin
and Tammy Gundaker's Tri-City Speedway, located across the
Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO. Earlier this year Jimmy Owens
of Newport, TN; who is second in the championship point's standings,
had a chance to win four in a row. He was denied victory at La Salle
(IL) Speedway back in May when Bloomquist snapped Owens' win streak
at three.
The visit to
Tri-City Speedway this Friday Night for the Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series will mark the sixth straight year that the series has
come to the 3/8ths mile high-banked oval. Pearson, Shannon Babb of
Moweaqua, IL; Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR (Twice); and
Martinsville, IN veteran and Lucas Oil Series driver, Don O'Neal are
among the winners who have graced victory lane at Tri-City in the
past five years.
On Saturday
Night, the stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, along with
the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Model Series will visit the "Diamond of Dirt
Tracks" Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. The appearance by the
LOLMDS is the ninth all-time at the track. Iowa's Brian Birkhofer
has taken home three victories at the track since 2006. Other
series winners at Lucas Oil Speedway includes Pearson, who has won
twice; Shannon Babb, Bart Hartman, and this year's $30,000 to win
DART "Show-Me 100" Champion, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC.
Scott
Bloomquist, the 2009 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National
Champion will try to extend his points lead this weekend.
Bloomquist currently holds a 195-point lead over Jimmy Owens. Earl
Pearson, Jr. has crept to within 80 points of Owens with his recent
hot-streak of victories. Ray Cook continues to come on strong in
the point's battle. He garnered his seventh consecutive top
four-finish this past weekend in Mississippi. Don O'Neal currently
sits in the fifth spot in points; he is looking to get back into the
winner's circle this weekend.
The remainder
of the top ten in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship
Standings include Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Chris Wall of
Holden, LA; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI; Steve Casebolt of
Richmond, IN; and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY.
Wall leads the
Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" standings by 65-points over
Wells with Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI, third. He has also picked
up two spots in the championship points standings in the last two
weeks.
Brad Looney of
Republic, MO currently leads the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Model Series
point's standings. He holds a narrow lead over veteran, Al Purkey of
Coffeyville, KS. Dave Eckrich of Oxford, IA is third in points.
Rounding out the Top-5 are teammates, Terry Phillips and Jeremy
Payne; both hail from Springfield, MO.
Hall of Famer,
Joe Kosiski of Omaha, NE comes into the "CMH Diamond Nationals"
sixth in points. Evan Hubert of Cross Timbers, MO; Chad Simpson of
Mt. Vernon, IA; Chris Spieker of Massena, IA; and Bill Koons of
Omaha, NE round out the Top-10.
Drivers with
perfect attendance on the LOLMDS also get a chance to accumulate
points in the E3 Spark Plugs Television Challenge at both events
this weekend. After his win in the "Clash at the Mag", Earl Pearson
Jr. has taken over the E3 points lead. The winner of the E# Spark
plugs Television Challenge will receive $2500 cash. Scott
Bloomquist has moved to second in the E3 Spark Plugs Challenge,
followed by Don O'Neal, Jimmy Owens, and Dan Schlieper. Second
place will receive a $1500 cash award.

Pearson Pockets $20,000 in Winning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series Event at Magnolia
|
|
COLUMBUS, MS
(July 10, 2010) - In front of the largest crowd in the history of
Magnolia Motor Speedway, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL won
his third consecutive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series main event.
He earned $20,000 by winning the "Clash at the Mag" Presented by the
Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau, on Saturday Night. Pearson
took the lead on lap 30 and held off defending series champion,
Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN for the win.
"I want to
first thank all these fans for coming out here tonight, it was hot
and I'm sure they saw a good show," said the 38-year-old Pearson
whose win was his 23rd in series history. The win
tonight broke a tie atop the all-time win list; Pearson now leads
Bloomquist by one victory. " I have to thank Lucas Oil Products,
Red Buck Cigars, MasterSbilt Race Cars and Larry Wallace Racing
Engines for all of their support. I also want to thank my car
owner, Bobby Labonte, my crew Jason, Matt, and everybody back at the
shop. The car was fast from the time we unloaded it on Friday."
Rookie, Eric
Wells, bolted out to the early lead and looked strong early on as he
led the first 19 laps of the race. Bloomquist took over the lead on
lap 20. He held the lead until Pearson made a smooth move on the
inside of Bloomquist coming off of turn four on lap 30 to get by the
reigning champion.
Pearson built a
healthy lead over what turned out to be torrid battle for second
between Bloomquist, Ray Cook, and Billy Moyer. The trio brutally
fought for the second spot for most of the main event. Moyer then
managed to clear both Cook and Bloomquist to solidly claim the
second spot on lap 71. Moyer then started to close on the almost
insurmountable lead that Pearson had built.
After to
getting within five car lengths of the leader, Moyer suddenly slowed
on the frontstretch and pulled to the infield as he entered turn one
on lap 79. After the final restart, Bloomquist consistently
challenged Pearson for the lead until the final three laps. In the
waning laps Pearson was able to maneuver through traffic to maintain
his lead ahead of Bloomquist.
"I want to
thank Johnny Stokes for the great race track he gave us tonight,"
exclaimed Pearson, "you could run anywhere on the track. Eric
[Wells] ran well in the beginning of the race; when Scott got around
us, I knew it was going to be a tough race for the lead."
Cook finished
third in the D&R Racing, #53 MasterSbilt. Dale McDowell in the
Clint Bowyer Racing, Dollar General, Warrior Race Car passed the
Mike Reece owned number 20 of Jimmy Owens on the final lap to claim
fourth.
Rounding out
the top ten were Stacy Taylor, Don O'Neal, Dan Schlieper, Terry
Phillips and Chris Wall.
The event was
taped by SPEED and will air on Saturday July 31st, for
more information on the broadcast go to the TV Schedule section of

Earl Pearson Jr. Wins Back-to-Back in Ohio in Grabbing Lucas
Oil Series Win at Portsmouth
|
PORTSMOUTH, OH (July 4, 2010) -
Four-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Earl
Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL took home his 22nd career series win
in grabbing the $10,000 to win Independence 50 on Sunday Night at
Portsmouth Raceway Park before a gigantic crowd. Pearson took the
lead from Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV on lap three. He went
on to his fifth series win of the year. Series point's leader,
Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN was second followed by Ray Cook
of Brasstown, NC; Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV; and John Blankenship
of Williamson, WV.
Pearson and Carrier made up the front row for the main event. The
two second generation pilots went toe-to-toe for the first two laps
of the race, crossing the start-finish line dead even. Pearson was
able to forge ahead of Carrier on lap three as Bloomquist was in the
third slot followed by Jason Covert and Josh McGuire. The 2009
Quarter Master Rookie of the Year for the LOLMDS, John Blankenship,
then moved into the top five by lap after starting eighth. Up
front, Pearson was starting to pull away from both Carrier and
Bloomquist. He opened up a good-sized lead in the early stages of
the race.
Carrier and Bloomquist were able to gain some time on Pearson as he
was starting to pick-up the tail end of the field by the 12th
circuit. Carrier and Bloomquist closed on him just as the first
caution of the race came out for Steve Casebolt on lap 15. The
restart saw Pearson work on extending his lead back out again as
Carrier and Bloomquist were fighting hard for second. With 21 laps
in the books, the second caution of the race flew for a slowing Eric
Wells.
The restart saw Pearson take off from Carrier and Bloomquist as Ray
Cook was now in the hunt. He had moved from the tenth starting spot
to fourth, just ahead of Blankenship. On the restart Carrier got
shuffled back in the field and Bloomquist moved to second and
brought Cook with him. At the halfway mark, Pearson was still
showing the way as Bloomquist and Cook were dicing it out for
second. The battle for second continued for several more laps as
Pearson had extended his race-lead to eight car lengths over the
duo.
Pearson then had his lead shrink in a hurry as lapped traffic began
slowing his momentum. Both Bloomquist and Cook cut into in his lead
in a matter of a few laps. What was a good-sized lead was now down
to two car lengths with ten laps to go as the top three were close
together with no lapped cars between them.
The third caution of the race for defending track champion, Kenny
Christy. This halted the action on lap 42. With eight laps to go, it
looked like it was going to be a three-car shootout to the finish.
Pearson was strong on the restarts and that allowed him to again
build a comfortable margin over Bloomquist and Cook in the waning
stages of the race.
A caution for a 360 spin by Donnie Moran was due to contact from
another car on lap 46. Shortly after the final restart Carrier
pulled off and headed to the pits. Pearson led the field to the
checkers and it was his all-time series tying 22nd career victory.
The feat matched Scott Bloomquist atop the all-time list. Pearson's
win also allowed him to keep pace with Bloomquist and Jimmy Owens of
Newport, TN; who finished sixth as all three now have five series
wins in 2010.
In Lucas Oil Victory Lane, Pearson completed the sweep of the Lucas
Oil Late Model Dirt Series Fourth of July Weekend in the state of
Ohio. He won the night before at Muskingum County Speedway in
Zanesville, OH. A tired, but elated Pearson emerged from his car
and with a few words of encouragement from his son, Trey waved to
the huge throng of fans on hand for the race. "First off I want to
dedicate this win to my teammate, Brad Neat, he flipped qualifying
and took a pretty good ride, he's ok, but he had to go to a back-up
car, what a way to celebrate the Fourth of July with this win and
last night at Zanesville," said Pearson.
"We started up there with Eddie Carrier Jr. and I knew when they
watered the top of the track he was going to be tough, but we had a
real good race for the lead there early on, the car worked extremely
well, the track was in good shape, I saw that zero car (Bloomquist)
up there on the scoreboard and Ray Cook there in third, so I knew I
was in a for a tough race there, but the cautions helped us a few
times when it cleared some lapped traffic that was in front of us,
the car restarted well and we were able to hold them guys off," said
Pearson who remains in third in the series championship points
standings.
Pearson who drives for 2000 NASCAR Cup Champion, Bobby Labonte
drives a MasterSbilt Dodge Charger with a Larry Wallace Racing
Engine and sponsored by Lucas Oil Products, Red Buck Cigars, PRC,
Sunoco Race Fuels, Hoosier Racing Tires, Asi Racewear and Ohlins
Shocks.
Bloomquist maintains his series points lead heading to the next
series race in Columbus, MS next weekend took second for another
good point's night in his Miller Brothers Construction/Roush-Yates
Racing Engines/Bloomquist Race Cars Monte Carlo SS. Third went to
Cook in the D&R Racing/A+ Moving and Storage/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo
SS with fourth going to Shaver in the K&L Rumley/Styers
Curbing/Rocket Chassis with Blankenship notching a top five in the
Coal America's Energy/Custom Race Engines/Rocket Chassis entry.
Completing the top ten were 12th starting Jimmy Owens, Jackie Boggs
of Grayson, KY; Jason Covert of York Haven, PA; Don O'Neal of
Martinsville, IN; and Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA.

Pearson Makes Late Race Pass on Cook to Win LOLMDS
"Budweiser 50" at Muskingum County
|
|
ZANESVILLE, OH
(July 3, 2010) - Overhauling race leader, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC,
with five laps remaining Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL went
on to record his fourth Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the
season on Saturday Night at Muskingum County Speedway. Pearson,
driving for NASCAR's Bobby Labonte took home the $10,000 after
winning the "Budweiser 50". Following Pearson was Cook; point's
leader, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; defending track
champion, Doug Dodd of Cambridge, OH; and Don O'Neal of
Martinsville, IN.
Cook and Jimmy
Owens made up the front row before a packed house at the Ronnie
Moran-promoted facility. Cook grabbed the early lead. Bloomquist,
who started eighth, made up some impressive ground on the first lap
coming up to fourth. A lap later Bloomquist was in third behind the
frontrunning Cook and John Blankenship. Cook started to build on his
lead as a good battle for second was developing between Blankenship
and Bloomquist. Pearson was running fourth followed by O'Neal. The
top three started to pull away from everyone as the leader started
to pick-up the tail end of the field by the tenth circuit.
Both
Blankenship and Bloomquist started to close on Cook in traffic as
Cook was having trouble negotiating traffic. Bloomquist made the
pass for second on lap 15, climbing into the runner-up slot. Pearson
then started on his patented bottom-line. He was able to track down
and eventually pass Blankenship for third on lap 18. Cook, who held
as much as a 15-car length lead over the field, was having trouble
getting past track provisional Shane McLaughlin, allowing both
Bloomquist and Pearson to close the gap on him.
With 30 laps
complete Cook still had almost a straightaway advantage over the
last two series champions, but a caution came out for Doug Drown on
lap 31. With 19 laps to go on the restart it was Cook, Bloomquist,
Pearson, Blankenship, and O'Neal in the top five.
The restart was
exciting as Cook held the lead; Pearson jumped into second followed
by Bloomquist. Dodd became a threat as he moved to fourth after
starting tenth. With tight battles all over the track, all eyes
were on the race for the lead between Cook and Pearson and the race
for third between Bloomquist and Dodd.
Pearson tried
the inside line for several laps to get by Cook, but Cook thwarted
Pearson every time. Dodd then started to catch the two frontrunners
as he was brought along Bloomquist, making it a four-car race for
the win. Pearson was finally able to clear Cook for the lead on lap
45 as Dodd and Bloomquist were duking it out for third. Pearson
then pulled away in the final laps to record his 21st
career win on the Lucas Oil lLate Model Dirt Series tour. Pearson is
now second in all-time wins, behind Scott Bloomquist's 22
victories. Bloomquist, meanwhile, was able to overtake Dodd with
two laps to go to gain the third position at the finish.
In Lucas Oil
Victory Lane, the 38-year-old second-generation racer was joined by
his crew, his son Trey, and several fans joined in the
celebration. "I'll tell you what, that was a lot of fun racing
there with Ray Cook, we were good when we unloaded today, the
Hoosier tires worked real well today, and hat's off to my crew. They
continue to work their tails off on this car. Look at this crowd
here, there's not an empty seat here tonight; I hope they enjoyed
that race," said the victorious Pearson.
"On the restart
Bloomquist took the bottom which kind of surprised me, but we
restarted really well and then we caught up to Ray and ran with him
side-by-side for several laps. We gave each other plenty of racing
room out there, thanks to the track crew here, the Moran family for
giving us a good track to race on. I probably wouldn't have caught
Ray without the yellow, Scott and I had a good race, but he was
running my line and I couldn't get by him, this is a nice recovery
from Beckley. That was my fault what happened when I spun out there
with eight laps to go and to come back here and run like we did it's
a credit to my crew," which includes Matt Langston and team manager,
Jason Fitzgerald who joined the winning driver in victory lane.
Pearson's Bobby
Labonte Racing MasterSbilt Dodger Charger is powered by a Larry
Wallace Racing Engine and sponsored by Lucas Oil Products, Red Buck
Cigars, PRC, Sunoco Race Fuels, Hoosier Racing Tires, Asi Racewear
and Ohlins Shocks.
Cook in the D&R
Racing/Hicks and Ingle Company General Contracting/MasterSbilt Monte
Carlo SS finished second followed by Bloomquist in his Miller
Brothers Construction/Roush-Yates Racing Engines/Bloomquist Race
