Cleveland County Speedway Rules Committee

Lawndale NC May 12th 2008

After an emergency meeting of the Cleveland County Rules Committee, and further review of Friday`s action at Cleveland County Speedway on the 'Hot Rod`s Video', GM Performance Late Model winner Buddy Smith will be fined his winning purse of $800 for the use of an ILLEGAL MIRROR.

The rules committee will allow the win to stand and Smith will get credit for the win in the points column, however, he will forfeit his winnings & will be put on 'illegal parts probation' for two weeks. Another such violation can result in more severe punishment.

"Smith gets a free pass each week as a result of his 2007 Championship, and we are powerless to suspend him for a parts violation, so I expect him to be there again this Friday to prove the mirror violation was a fluke and he can still win on the big tracks. There are those that have their doubts as the second place man was 17 years old and gave him a real run for his (OUR) money. Plus, I find it hard to believe that he would actually resort to the use of a mirror to keep competitors from passing, it could have been an oversight, so we`ll give him the benefit of the doubt, but it`s going to cost him $800.

Furthermore, we didn`t want everybody to have to wait until Tuesday like NASCAR, because we want the public to know that all the action is above board here and sponsor money does not dictate our decisions.." promoter Duane Goins said.

The action is not unprecedented as Smith has had a history of running afoul of the rules both on & off the track ."He is welcome to file a grievance with the board in Denver NC if he chooses, the form is 16 pages and costs $500 to file and is non-refundable.

I`ll be more than happy to give him the phone number, but he better call during office hours !" Goins reported as he hung up the phone.

Gates open at 5 PM again this week at CCS with Catawba County residents in free. $12 for all other adults in the grandstands with 12 & under free, and $20 for pit competitors in 6 classes with racing slated for 8 pm. www.clevelandcountyspeedway.com

’Mac Daddy’ Claims Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series ‘Mountain Spring 50’

Maryville, TN (5-10-08) Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Georgia became the fifth different winner in as many events of 2008 on The Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series Tour by claiming the $3,000 to win Mountain Spring 50 at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN on Saturday night.

“Well I didn’t really know if it was going to be me or Joe (Armes) that was actually going to race this car tonight but since he couldn’t make it I was happy to drive it. I’m working mostly on driver development programs but getting these wins sure makes me want to drive more. It feels good to get another win. It’s a great car. I want to congratulate the track on running a great program and you guys (referring to the series) for putting on a good show” said a jubilant McDowell from Victory Lane.

Great weather and a great night of good ole fashioned dirt track racing action were long awaited by the fans and drivers of Mountain Raceway on Saturday night after many weather related cancellations. The ‘Modern Day Cowboy’ John Gill of Mitchell, IN set Powermaster Fast Time with a 15.98 second lap and proceeded to the pill draw and drew out his car number (number 1) which meant the Sunoco Quick Six Dashes would start straight up from qualifying with no inversion.

Mike Weeks of Friendsville was able to get the jump on Gill in the first Sunoco Dash and led flag to flag over the top six qualifiers which meant he would start from the pole for the 50 lap A-Main. Gill finished second in the dash, followed by Randy Weaver of Crossville, McDowell, Dan Tipton of Kingston and Skip Arp of Georgetown.

Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series point leader Rick Rogers of Knoxville claimed the second Sunoco Dash over the seventh thru twelfth quickest machines and would put him starting seventh on the feature grid. He was followed in the dash by Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, David Crabtree of Maryville, Mike Hill of Rockwood, Dusty Carver of Englewood and Herman Goddard of Knoxville.

With the top twelve starting spots locked into the feature, the thirteenth thru twentieth starting spots would be set thru two West Haven Speed Equipment B-Mains. Drivers would need to finish in the top four spots to claim a spot in the A-Main. Chad Ogle of Sevierville won the first B-Main and was followed across the stripe by Tommy Kerr of Maryville, Tony Schrimsher of Loudon, and Stacy Boles of Claxton. B-Main number two was claimed by Mark Vineyard of Powell, followed by Bobby Giffin of Maryville, Steve Smith of Powell and Anthony White of Clinton.

The series point provisional starting spots were claimed by April Farmer of Livingston and Jeff Neubert of Rockford. The two fast-time provisional went to Scott Gardner of Knoxville and Frank Merritt of Maryville which set the final twenty-four car starting field for the Advance Auto Parts A-Main.

Just after the drop of the green flag of the fifty lapper, the #1G of Gill, starting from the front row outside, waved his hand to alert the drivers behind him he was without power thus ending his night then and there. This would pull the #77 of McDowell up to the front row along side the #22 of Weeks for a complete double-file re-start.

Once the green flag flew again Weeks would charge to the lead with serious challenges thrown at him by McDowell until the first caution flag waved on lap five for the #4 of Vineyard, who spun in turn two. Before the sixth lap was officially scored, caution number two flew for the #12 of Schrimsher, who spun in turn four, collecting the #86 of Neubert, the #25 of Gardner and the #C8 of Merritt.

With Weeks still out front on the next re-start, caution three waved over lap six for the #22 of Goddard after he rode the back stretch retaining wall before coming to a stop in turn three. Dixie-Double File Re-Starts were utilized in the feature, which meant the leader re-started from the front row by himself with second on back able to choose the inside or outside row. This proved advantageous for the #116 of Weaver, who chose to start outside of McDowell in the second row, as he was able to take over the second spot and then grabbed the lead away from Weeks on lap six. McDowell got by Weeks for second on lap eight.

A real dog fight ensued over the next several laps between Weaver and McDowell with McDowell claiming the lead on lap sixteen but caution number four flew over lap eighteen for Weaver, who came to a stop on the front stretch. He then pulled into the pits only to discover there was no flat tire so he reported to the rear of the field.

McDowell was still showing the way at this point with Weeks in second, the #12T of Tipton, having a strong run, in third, the #44 of Rogers in fourth and the #201 of Ogle in fifth. Two more yellow flags would wave over lap nineteen, the first one for the #C5 of Crabtree, who slowed down the back stretch, the second one on the re-start for the #9 of Carver for slamming the turn one wall backwards after he and the #11B of Boles got together. An extended red flag period followed to remove Carver’s mangled machine and debris from the turn one wall.

At this stage of the race attrition was playing havoc on the field as only fourteen cars remained in contention with McDowell still showing the way. The best battles on the track were for positions second through sixth between Weeks, Tipton, Ogle, Rogers and the #97B of Arp. At least until lap #22 when the seventh yellow waved for Weeks, who slammed the turn two wall after something broke on his ride ending what had been a very good night for the Milkman.

The longest green flag run followed with McDowell still out front, followed by a great battle between Tipton, Ogle, Rogers, Arp and his teammate, the #97 of Giffin until lap thirty-nine when Giffin ran up on the dirt berm at the bottom of turn four, bringing the car off the ground and slamming it back to the surface on all fours therefore ending his night prematurely.

By now Weaver had returned to the top five after re-starting at the rear at least twice for tire changes but would run out of time before making another serious threat for the top two spots before settling for third. McDowell in the meantime had pulled away form the rest of the field and cruised to the victory over Ogle, Weaver, Rogers and Arp. Kerr finished sixth, followed by the #2X of White, Boles, Tipton, who suffered from a tire going down in the late stages, settled for ninth and the #10 of Chad Ogle rounded out the top ten. The #14 of Farmer managed to survive and finish eleventh among the eleven cars left at the end.

ROCKETMAN BLASTS EAST ALABAMA

By Jay Vaquer

Phemix City, ALA - May 10, 2008 - Richie "Rocketman" Stephens, already leading the East Alabama Motor Speedway 2008 Extreme Power Sports Championship point standings, added yet another victory to a spectacular rookie year in the Late Model division. Local Late Model legend Dana Eiland won the Extreme Power Sports fast time award of $100 for a blistering lap of 15.78 to earn the pole for the feature. When the green flag dropped Terrance "The Phenix City Assassin" Nowell suddenly lost power in turn one which started a pile up in turn two. Montana Dudley and Track Champion Larry Harrod took some serious hits. Jeff Mills had to enter the pits before the restart. The green was back out and Dana Eiland took the lead until speedster Larry Eldridge took the lead on lap 2. On lap 5 the running order was Eldridge, Dana Eiland, Bobby Eiland, Richie Stephens, and Matt Woodson in fifth. Dana Eiland had his K-9 on the inside groove looking for a way back into the lead as the front 4 stretched out to a straightaway lead from Woodson in fifth who was leading the rest of the field. Josh Noles was having a great run and was involved in a heavy battle with Marvin Cook over sixth place. Noles demonstrated he still had the moves as he passed Cook, who is no slouch, in turn 4 on lap 11. Unlucky lap 13 caught up with Noles as he broke and spun in turn 4 for the lap 13 caution. When the green came back Bobby Eiland shot by the Rocketman then debris caused the lap 15 caution. When this green came back Rocketman hit his afterburners and blasted by Bobby Eiland for third at the same time Dana Eiland moved his K-9 back into the lead. When they came out of turn for Eldridge and Bobby Eiland were side by side when the Rocketman hit the hyper-space button and shot between the two down the front straight to secure second and begin running down the K-9. Bobby Eiland suddenly took third from Eldridge. Noles was there to spar with Eldridge when Chad Carden went off the back for the lap 20 caution. Eldridge had to give up his position as he entered the pits and returned at the back of the field. When the green came back Dana Eiland chose the inside line while the Rocketman orbited in the high groove. The excitement was really on between these two when the white flag came out and they were side by side. Suddenly the K-9 took a page from the Kentucky Derby and went lame with a broken suspension. The Rocketman cruised into the lead and took the checkers for the third time this year. Dana Eiland did not give up and managed to limp to the checkers losing seven positions. Rocketman was followed to the checkers by Bobby Eiland, Josh Noles, Matt Woodson, Jeff Mills, Marvin Cook, Ricky Culpepper, Dana Eiland, Chad Carden and Larry Eldridge rounded out the top ten.

In the Limited Sportsman division Rodgerick Dykes took the lead and ran with it wire to wire for the win. JW Noles advanced passing Steven Gaines JR and Danny Stroud to take 4th on lap 9. Mikey Mount came up to pass Thomas Lewis on lap 11 for second spot. Dykes was driving the car that looked totaled out after he flipped it several times last week but he said after he put it back together it ran better than before and he was way to fast for anyone else as he took the checkers unabated. Mikey Mount finished second, Thomas Lewis third, Danny Stroud fourth, JW Noles fifth, Steven Gains JR sixth, Russ Ogletree seventh, Paul Still eighth, Efrem Holbrook ninth, and Dustin Elliot rounded out the top ten in tenth.

In the Bomber division Richard Stephens SR started on the pole but misfired at the green and gave Shelby Amos the lead. Amos drove away from the field and turned in a perfect race for the win. Richard Stephens finished second, Jeff Elliot third, Christy Noles fourth, and Chris Story finished fifth.

In the Pony division Flyin' Bryan Price picked up the win with Chance Renfroe second, Bobby Duell third, Adam Rodriguez fourth, and Kenneth Catrett fifth.

In the Hobby race Allen McConnell held Jeremy Nevels back nearly the entire race to take the checkers from the pole. Nevels finished second, John Michael third, Jeremy Nelson fourth, and Jason Anthony fifth.

In the Modified feature Randy Register picked up the checkers with Johnny Green second, Ricky White third, Andy Smith fourth and Stacy Mashburn fifth.

Carolina Clash

GROVETOWN, GA (May 9) - If you are only going to lead one lap, make it the one that counts. That is exactly what Dennis 'Rambo' Franklin did Friday night at Gordon Park Speedway, where the popular Gaffney, SC resident, nipped Casey Roberts at the line to collect his second Carolina Clash Series victory of the early season. Richie Corley and Ed Gibbons brought the field to the green with Gibbons jumping into the early lead followed by Corley, Chesley Dixon, Roberts and G.R. Smith. The top five stayed within striking distance of one another through a couple of early caution periods. On lap 11 both Dixon and Roberts were able to slide around Corley as Frankliln began to make his presence known. After winning the first heat and starting 13th on the grid, he charged to seventh by lap 15 and was looking for more. Two laps later he went by Jeff Smith and G.R. Smith to move into fifth. Dixon's strong run came to an end on lap later when the Swainsboro, GA native went pitside with mechanical problems. On the restart Franklin began to apply some pressure to Corley for third as Gibbons began to stretch his lead out a little. Franklin was able to bypass Corley for third on lap 26 as four time and defending series champion Ricky Weeks joined the top five with a pass of Jeff Smith. Two laps later Weeks charged by Corley for fourth. Jeff Smith was able to join the top five on lap 33 as he moved the Corley back one more spot. He then slipped back around Weeks as the leaders took the two to go signal. As the leaders took the white flag Gibbons, Roberts and Franklin were locked together in a dog fight for the win. Entering turn three former series champion Ed Basey looped his mount in front of the leaders, Roberts nudged Gibbons getting both drivers crossed up in turn four. Franklin took the opportunity to jump to the outside and barely edged Roberts back to the line for the $4,000 victory. Roberts, Gibbons, Jeff Smith and Weeks rounded out the top five. Corley was the Mega-Plumbing of the Carolina's Fast Qualifier. Scott Neighbors took the Heintz Brothers Performance Hard Charger of the Race. Ray Moore & Jeff Taylor Top O’Reilly MSRA At Greenville

Greenville, Mississippi (5/11/08) – The O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Models made their first ever trip to Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi, and at the end of the weekend, Ray Moore and Jeff Taylor went down in the record books as inaugural winners.

On Friday night, 25 Super Late Models signed in to do battle around the ¼ mile Greenville Speedway. After accumulating the most passing points in his heat race, Jeff Taylor earned the JFR Graphics Pole Qualifier Award. Throughout the course of the event, the top spot would see four different drivers trying to stake their claim as Taylor, Joey Mack, Dusty Johnston, and Ray Moore all took turns at the helm. At appeared late in the race that Moore was on his way to victory lane before a lapped car caused him to spin off the end of the track, relinquishing the lead to Taylor. Taylor would go on to take the win with Johnston, Mack, Moore (who charged from the back to a 4th place finish in 10 laps), and Jeff Chandler rounding out the top five. Jeff Floyd won the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award after coming from the last position to a 6th place finish in his backup car after an engine expired in his heat race. Bo Gordon received the Weld Racing Wheels Forge Ahead Hard Luck Award after he flipped out of the track, while running in the 5th position.

On Saturday night, the O’Reilly MSRA prepared for their second event under very threatening skies. Twenty-nine Super Late Models signed in for the event, and it was Joey Mack, who earned the JFR Graphics Pole Qualifier Award. Mack would lead early in the feature before Ray Moore slipped by to take a lead that he would never relinquish. Allen Tippin, Joey Mack, Dusty Johnston, and Kyle Beard rounded out the top five finishers. Jeff Sloan from Missouri received the Weld Racing Wheels Forge Ahead Hard Luck Award after battling fuel problems all weekend. Kyle Beard received the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award. Kyle started 18th and finish 5th, but the real story was the fact that he had to go to the back of the pack twice during cautions due to heading pitside trying to cool his engine down and steal managed to advance 13 positions.

Overall, it was a great weekend of racing at Greenville Speedway with a smooth racing surface and to quote the track owner, “some of the best racing I have ever seen at Greenville”.

 Tazewell Speedway

Trammel and Hall Three-Peat at The Taz Saturday evening brought sunny skies to start of the Mother's Day Weekend and plenty of racing action at Tazewell Speedway. The fourth race of the 2008 season found two drivers picking up their third wins in a row and also attracting bounties. Bubby Braden and Jamie James made up the front row of the 4 cylinder feature with Braden taking the early lead. Wayne Woodward brought of the first yellow for an engine fire that was quickly extinguished ending Woodward's night. James brought out the next caution as he spun on lap number five and also again on lap nine. Some fans might have thought that James might have lacked in driving ability yet he had a great excuse. Saturday night was the first time in two years that he had been behind the wheel of a race car as he was serving our country in military duty in Iraq. Midway through a tight three-way battle took place between Braden, Cheyenne Kite and Josh Fields. After a re-start on lap nine Braden stalled in turn two with Kite diving low to avoid a collision that Braden, Fields and Curtis Jones couldn't avoid. Fields and Jones were able to continue. Kite had no challenge for the rest of the race as he picked up his first feature of the year and celebrated with his own version of the burnout which has become popular this season. Kite's car is sponsored by Bandit Cycles and Mr. Plumber. 4 Cylinder Results 1. 9 Cheyenne Kite 2. 11 Josh Fields 3. 19 Brad Pressley 4. 4 Curtis Jones 5. In Modified Street action Jody Horton was looking to capture his third win in a row. After setting fast time and starting on the front row beside his father Tony, Horton set sail until tangling with the lap car of Scottie Atkins on lap number nine, ending Horton's chance for a three-peat. The night wasn't a total loss for the Horton crew as Tony Horton held on to win making the father and son duo the only Modified Street winners so far this season. Steel Head Late Models had plenty of action as Steve Carr of Rogersville set fast time and lined up beside Jason Trammel on the front row. Trammel was another driving hoping to make it a three-peat. At the drop of the flag Trammel took the lead and pulled away from Carr until lap number eleven when Phillip Nichols spun in turn two. Trammel pulled away from Carr on the re-start yet Carr put up a great challenge staying within striking distance throught the feature. Trammel had to work extra hard to keep his mount steady on a slick track along with keeping Carr at bay. With the laps winding down the leaders caught up with traffic and Carr dove low a few times but was never able to get the advantage on Trammel who made it a three-peat and also picked up his 40th feature win at Tazewell Speedway. In Victory Lane Trammel admitted that he made the wrong tire selection and that he knew Carr would race him clean. He also thanked the fans for coming out and hoped they would continue their support. With the three-peat track officials put out $200 bounty for any driver that can beat Trammel next week. Steel Head Late Model Results 1. 90J Jason Trammel 2. 77 Steve Carr 3. 00 Kip Pearson 4. Brad Hall was another driver looking to three-peat in the West Chevrolet FASTRACK Crate Late Models. Hall set fast time and shared the front row with Jason Trammel. After several attempts to start the race double file with several cars spinning on seperate occasions, track officials made the decision to start the race single file. From then it was Hall leading flag-to-flag for the win with track officials also placing a $200 bounty on Hall for next week. In the feature the first two laps were exciting with the top six cars racing side by side with Travis Helton taking the early lead over Buster Cupp. The two made contact on lap number two sending Helton to the infield with front end sheet metal damage. Helton later came back on the track to finish twelvth. On lap number four Steve Smith passed Cupp for the lead hoping to pick up his second win in a row. Third running Matt Tharp brought out the caution on lap number seven after hitting the back stretch wall. Smith lead the rest of the race only to be disqualified after a protest from second place finisher Jason Long. After a subsequent inspection from track officials, Long's car was found to be illegal also giving the win to Michael Boyd. LONAS RETURNS TO THE WINNERS CIRCLE AT THE NEW LAKEVILLE SPEEDWAY

The regular Friday night racing at The New Lakeville Speedway was postponed until the follow evening and the extra day of waiting as the fans, drivers were greeted with an ultra smooth and very fast racing surface. The first main event to assemle was the American Payroll Advance Late Models.Alan Baker and Mike Lonas had earned the front row with Rick Bond and Bill Clapp filling up the second row.Lonas wasted no time at the drop of the green as he powered to the point with Bond chasing. The first caution would slow the field as Wes Morrison rolled to a stop in turn four on the second lap.As they were ready to go back to green,Baker went pitside and was finished for the evening.Just as the previous start,Lonas busted loose again to lead Bond by as many as 6 car lengths.A couple more yellows bunched the field up again and on laps 10 and 11 Bond make several exciting moves to get around Lonas but could not make it happen. While the front runners were battling, several other races were happening with Benny Lester and Clint Coffman.Lester had started 11th and Lester was working from his 7th place start.Just past the half way point Lonas stretched his lead over Bond to maybe 11 car lengths. The field remained the same until about lap 21 when the shuffle started happening. When the black and white was displayed it was Lonas followed by Bond,Coffman finished third,Lester was scored in fourth and J.R.Gentry had came from starting eighth to record a top five finish.Heat wins were gathered in by Morrison and Lonas. The next event to come to the grid was the Pepsi Winged Sprints.Cody Jacobs was on the pole with Jason Dolick on the outside and row two was made up with Chad Levingston and Jeremy Aumend.Dolick weas able to beat Jacobs to the first turn and blasted out to the lead.Jacobs maintained his second place run until lap 6 when Danny Mumaw from 6th place replaced Jacobs in the runner up spot.Bryan Grove was making his run to the front as well and was shown in 3rd place.A lap nine red flag for a slow rollover by Jerry McClure stopped the field.McClure with very little damaged return to the track with a new wing and ready to start the battle again. On lap 16 Nick Mulheim make the pass on Mumaw and set his sights on the leader Dolick.Mumaws night came to an end with two laps to go with a yellow flag.At the finish line it was Dolick getting him first win on his first visit this year,Mulheim recorded a very close second,Tim Hunter showed his power by driving to a third place finish from starting in the eighth hole.Grove drove a very respectable race to come home in fourth and Jeremy Shambaugh made a great run from starting last to record a top five finish.Mulheim and Mumaw got the heat wins and Hunter raced to the win in the dash. The Hamlin Racing Engines sponsored Pure Stocks came to the starting line next as twenty one competitors took the green flag.Rich Frame,Don Baney,Brett Burgess and Dave Haven Sr.filled up the two front rows for the start.Frame went to the lead very quickly as Burgess dropped in behind the leader with Baney riding third and Donna Canode shown in fourth. After six laps had been put into the books,Billy Goerz was rapidly coming from his eighth starting place and using the high side of the track to make his #55 work for him.Burgess at this time had replaced Frame at the point with now Goerz pressuring Burgess for the lead.On the tenth lap Goerz made the move to the high side again and went outfront. The exciting part of this event was seeing three wide action for several laps between Burgess,Shaun Cains,Hud Wharton and Brad Channell.Baney fell out of the mix with problems and retired to the pits as did Wharton.Paul Harringer became a real player in this battle as well as he worked through the field from 14th. Dave Haven Jr.celebrating his birthday had the run of the night as he picked off car after car in his charge to the front. No one had enough for Goerz as he got his third win of the year in his Custom Cabinets #55.Cains was scorded in second with Harringer getting third.Burgess finished fourth, however was disqualified in post race inspected which moved Haven Jr to fourth and Canode to a fifth place finish. The three heats were won by Goerz,Cains, and Murray Anderson. Josh Hershberger was chased by Dale Beckett just about the entire event in the Hague Crystal Clear Water Mini Stocks. Those two seperated themselves from the rest of the field early in the feature event until lap 7 when Jordan James and Cody Rinard joined the heated action.Sean Rush was giving his every effort to come forward from his 9th starting position.By lap 12 lapped traffic came in to play and the two front place cars worked it to thier advantage. It was a very close finish as Hershberger got the win with Beckett second,James third,Rush fourth and Rinard in the fifth spot.Justin Brown,Rush and Hershberger got the heat wins with Michelle West winning the B Main and Lenny Quinn gathering in the top spot in the C Main battle. Doug Hensel got his second feature trophy in the Rod Eddletblutes garage Novice Mini Stocks.Early in the event Tim Rush was the leader with hensel chasing him.On the 8th lap,Hensel went to the lead, however Rush did not give up as those two showed the fans that they are very capable of handling the power plants under the hoods. The top were Hensel,Rush,Brad Lawhorn,Kevin Wright and Steven Folley.Sonny Flannery got the heat victory. Charlie Dawson won his second feature out of three attempts in the Tom's Salvage Classic Cruisers.Dawson had won the earlier heat race and started 4th.Cody Radcliff led the first 4 laps as Bob Fry was in pursuit and on lap 6 Dawson took over and drove to the win.Fry finished second Royal Mast was third,Cody Radcliff came home 4th and Dave Radcliff 5th with Gary Hensel gathering in the 6th place finish. The remainder of the top ten would be Tim Tungate, Derek Fisher, Eric Wells, Cody Mahoney, and former Sprint Car pilot Rocky Hodges. The race would be 40 laps and go caution free and be the third straight series event that has seen the A-Main go caution free.

The O’Reilly A-Main start would see Victor Lee take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Zach Carney, Don O’Neal, Tyrel Todd, and Kevin Claycomb giving chase. O’Neal would pressure Carney for second, with Todd, Claycomb, and Tim Tungate battling for fourth. O’Neal would take the runner-up slot from Carney on lap 4, with Lee pulling away a bit from the field by lap 7.

The battle for third would intensify on lap 11 when Claycomb would begin to mount a charge on Carney, while Todd was getting pressure for fifth from both Tungate and Derek Fisher on lap 12. Claycomb would take the third spot away from Carney on lap 13, as the race leader would begin to close in on slower traffic. Lee would make a three-wide move in traffic on lap 19 and put some distance between he and O’Neal at the halfway point.

By lap 25, Lee would begin to work heavy slower traffic and O’Neal would be able to close right up on Lee as the field would complete the 30th circuit. O’Neal would repeatedly dog and challenge Lee over the final ten circuits, but would have to settle for second on this evening to the defending series champion.

In preliminary action, Shannon Reed of Bloomington, IN would be the Racing Optics Top Qualifier among 34entries with a lap of 14.563 seconds. Heat race checkered flags went to Don O’Neal in Wayne Bowen Racing Supply heat one, Tyrel Todd in K&N Performance Engineering heat two, Victor Lee in Graphic Impressions heat three, and Zach Carney in Real Racing Wheels heat four. The B-Main checkered flags fell to Christian Rayburn and Joe Janowski, with series provisionals going to Mike Jewell and Scottie Jones.

The next event for the Super Late Model division of the O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series is Friday May 16 at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY for the rescheduled 9th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial event, which will be 40 laps of O’Reilly A-Main action, paying $3,000 to win. Gary Dalton Takes Super Late Checkers; Greg Hauger Wins Career First Late Model Feature As Roaring Knob Opens 2008 Season

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (May 10) - After two weeks of rainouts, Mother Nature finally relented, and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex was able to get their season opener in the books. In the Commonwealth Marketing Group Late Models, Greg Hauger scored his career first Late Model win. Other winners were Gary Dalton (Victory Chevrolet Super Late Models), Lou Krushansky (Brooks Auto Group Modifieds), Tom Newman (GNH Trucking Street Stocks), and Mark Peck, Jr. (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers).

The first feature to hit the track for 2008 was the GNH Trucking Street Stocks. Mike Duritsky jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green. Duritsky looked like he was on his way to the win when eighth starting Todd Dennis stormed into the lead on lap nine. Dennis led four laps before he broke and slowed to a stop on lap 12. Lemont Furnace’s Tom Newman, who had taken second on lap 11, inherited the lead and led the final three laps to score the win. Bob Nelson (from seventh) took second over Marshall Coleman, Duritsky and Pat Monaghan. Sixth through tenth were Charlie McClain, EJ Rozak, Justin Chipps, Willie Porter and rookie Barry Faris. Heat races were won by Dennis and Nelson.

Defending 2007 Track Champion, Gary Dalton (Morgantown, WV) put on a charge from the tail to take the win in the Victory Chevrolet Super Late Models. At the start, LC Powers grabbed the led from his outside pole starting spot. Powers looked strong and held off several challenges from a determined Billy Holbert. Dalton, who was involved in a caution on lap 6, took second on lap 22 and one lap later passed Powers in an impressive drive to lead the final three laps and claim the opening night win. Holbert passed Powers for second while Mel Minnick, Jr. and Bob Gordon completed the top five. Tim Senic claimed sixth over Jeff Thomas, while Greg Gellner rallied back to eighth, Danny Pugh took ninth, and Matt Cosner rounded out the top ten. Dalton and Holbert grabbed heat wins.

A slim field of Modifieds saw eighth starting Louie Krushansky (Morgantown, WV) take the lead on lap two and go on to win the 15-lap Brooks Auto Group Modified feature. Once out front Krushansky cruised to an easy win over Dennis Perigo, Ron Parrish, Jr., Nick Cramer, Shawn Davis, Vic Vandergrift, Rod Lanham and Bobby Bennett, who was unable to take the green. Krushansky won the lone heat.

Greg Hauger has successfully competed in Street Stocks and Modifieds at the Knob before making the move to the Commonwealth Marketing Group Late Models, and up until opening night, Late Model victory lane has eluded him. On a mission, Hauger started third, and by the end of the first lap, was the leader. Second year driver Cody Hardesty applied pressure the first six laps before Wayne Jordan moved into second. Jordan kept Hauger in sight, but had nothing for the Uniontown driver, as Hauger raced to his career first 20-lap Late Model win. Jordan hung on for second over Jim Kutas, Hardesty, Garry Sisson, Chuck Bloom, Mason Zeigler, Jeff Ferguson (in Curt Hager’s #77) and John Tallman. Hauger also won the heat.

The final feature of the night belonged to the Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers. 2007 Track Champion, Mark Peck, Jr. (Uniontown PA) took the lead from his pole starting spot and was never challenged. Peck led all 12-laps en route to the victory. Robert Matthews came home second, while young Ryan Newman held off Brad Jenkins for third and Shane Wheeler, Jr. rode home in fifth. Bob Miller came back from an earlier flat to claim sixth with Adam McCormick, Jason Humberson, Fred Spiker and rookie Joey Tomasek rounding out the top ten. Jenkins and Miller were the heat winners.

Next week, May 17, Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex will salute the Armed Forces with a five division show featuring the Victory Chevrolet Super Late Models, Commonwealth Marketing Group Late Models, Brook Auto Group Modifieds, GNH Trucking Street Stocks and the Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers. Gates Open at 4:30 with Hot Laps at 6:15 and Racing at 7:00 sharp.

ADAMS WINS FIRST LATE MODEL RACE OF SEASON;

SMITH EARNS FIRST CAREER WIN IN PRO STOCK 20;

ROTHFUSS TAKES ROADRUNNER VICTORY

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Dave Calaman, of Carlisle, became the first repeat winner of the season in the 358 sprint car division at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s 25-lap main event. Calaman held off current point leader Pat Cannon, of Etters, for his eighth career 358 sprint car victory at the track while driving the Godfrey Motorsports No. 5.

Tony Adams, of Sunbury, bested a strong field of late models for his first win of the season in the division’s 25-lap main event, while Jason Smith, of Williamsport, earned his first career win in the Seventh Annual Ink Spot Printing Pro Stock 20. Smith earned $1,000 for the win in the 20-lap championship race.

Troy Miller, of Tower City, was the fast qualifier for the Pro Stock 20 and set a new one-lap track record of 25.021. Jeff Furlong, of Sunbury, also set a new 10-lap track record in the 358 sprint car B-main with a time of 3:09.575.

Ray Rothfuss, of Muncy, won his first race of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner main event.

Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Paul Stine Chevrolet URC/358 Sprint Car Jack Gunn Memorial Challenge Race at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 17. The 30-lap main event will pay $3,500 to win and $225 to start. The late models and pro stocks will also be on the racing program. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.

Outside front row starter Brian Nornhold opened a sizable lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Polesitter Mark Manieri, Jr., held down the runner up position for the first three laps before tenth-place starter Dave Calaman horsepowered his way into the second position on a lap four restart.

Pat Cannon, who started 11th, quickly advanced to the third position on the same restart while eighth-place starter Phil Walter and ninth-place starter Davie Franek raced in the top five.

On the 10th circuit, Calaman moved into striking distance and passed Nornhold for the lead on the frontstretch. By lap 16, Cannon took over second and began to reel in Calaman. The event’s final caution flag unfurled on lap 18 when Kyle Bachman stopped on the track.

The final laps saw Calaman hold off Cannon by 2.8 seconds at the finish. Franek, Nornhold, and 17th-place starter Blane Heimbach rounded out the top five.

Second-place starter Jeff Smith powered into the lead at the start of the late model feature. Chasing Smith for the first five laps were fourth-place starter Gary Beward and fifth-place starter Tony Adams.

On the sixth lap, Adams drove by Beward for the runner up position and began to reel in his teammate Smith. A lap later, Smith withdrew from the race when his car developed mechanical problems. Adams inherited the lead for the restart with ninth-place starter Coleby Frye and 12th-place starter Jeff Rine in pursuit.

Rine secured the second position after an intense battle with Frye on the 21st lap and attempted to reel in Adams to no avail. At the checkered flag, Adams was victorious over Rine, Frye, Steve Campbell, and Eric Hons.

Current point leader and second-place starter AJ Stroup raced into the lead at the start of the Pro Stock 20. Polesitter AJ Hoffman followed Stroup for the first three laps before his race car lost power. At this point, fourth-place starter Brad Trump found himself restarting second behind Stroup.

Trump offered several challenges for the lead but also fell victim to mechanical misfortune while racing second. Sixth-place starter Troy Miller inherited the runner up position and put in his bid for the lead while eighth-place starter Brian Towsey began to show his speed.

Towsey passed Stroup for the lead on the 11th circuit and appeared to have the fastest car on the track until fifth-place starter Jason Smith showed how much horsepower his car had with an exciting, sweeping pass around Miller, Stroup, and Towsey for the lead on lap 14.

Smith continued to tour the speedway using the outside line and posted the victory by .29 of a second over Towsey, Stroup, Miller, and Peanut Heintzelman.

Fourth-place starter Bill Benner led the first lap of the roadrunner main event. On the second circuit, sixth-place starter Ray Rothfuss powered into the lead for the duration of the event. Ricky Bender, who started 11th, followed Rothfuss into the second position and kept the leader at bay.

Point leader Keith Bissinger started 12th and was racing third when his car developed a flat tire on the ninth circuit. At the finish, Rothfuss was victorious over Bender, Benner, Matt Drum, and Rob Pyle.

K-C Raceway results 5-10-08

By Scott Wolfe CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Finally, good weather greeted fans and drivers at Jim Nier's K-C Raceway Saturday night where Bethel, Ohio's Rick Combs claimed the exciting 25-lap late model feature and Chillicothe's newfound hero, veteran Danny Smith claimed the high-velocity 410 Sprint Car main. Athens, Ohio's Chris Stotts won his second consecutive K-C modified main, and Jamey Adams claimed the close Hobby Stock victory. In the late model main, pole-sitter and dash winner Ben Adkins took the early lead, dicing for the top spot with outside pole man Keith Berner and the hard-charging Combs. Adkins owned the early going, but on lap five Adkins developed a flat tire and had to go to the rear of the 21-car field. About the same time Combs took the next spot over Berner to assume the lead. Berner was in hot pursuit the entire race. Each lap, however, Adkins picked off one or two cars in a torrid charge from last to the front. Meanwhile, defending champ Delmas Conley and son Rod Conley battled it out for fourth place until contact between the two sent son Rod spinning wildly into the front stretch wall and out of the race. On lap thirteen Josh Bocook was bidding for a top-ten run, but jumped the cushion and rode the fourth turn wall before taking a tumble and landing on his top. Bocook was ok, but his solid run had ended. Back in the pack Bobby Kitchen, Jeff Houser and Delmas Conley engaged in a gang fight for their home turf. That race was just as inspiring as the race for the point. Combs had his hands full of former K-C champ Berner once again. As the race came to a close, third place Mike Wilson clipped the wall and was sidelined for the night. By this time on lap 18, Adkins was up to sixth. As if on a mission, Adkins drove the guts out of his B-7 mount. The fans responded with super-charged cheers as Adkins picked off Delmas Conley and Houser. One lap later Bobby Kitchen fell victim to the speedster. With two laps to go, Berner clung to the tail of Combs while Adkins throttled-up one lane higher. Nearly three-wide on lap 24, Adkins edged by Berner for second to set up one last charge for the win. Arms pumping and on their feet, the crowd witnessed a great finish. Combs sensed urgency and responded with a perfect flat-footed finale to hold off Adkins by a length at the end. "I knew if he (Ben Adkins) was going to pass me he was going to have to work for it," said a tired, but happy Rick Combs. "The old saying in racing goes 'you gotta protect the bottom' and that's what I tried to do." Following Combs at the finish were Adkins, Keith Berner, Bobby Kitchen, Jeff Houser, Delmas Conley, Chad Smith, D.J. Miller, Kevin Layne, and Craig Gibson. Bobby Kitchen earned hard-charger honors with a blast from 14th to fourth. Transplanted Indiana outlaw Danny Smith was once again the winner, but Vandalia's Jimmy Stinson made sure he earned every penny. Stinson pulled alongside Smith several times, but Smith's "game-winning" move was a bonsai dive past a lapped car on the last lap to preserve a three-car length win. "I heard him (Stinson) back there several times, and then I saw him a couple times and knew I had to get up on the wheel. I thought he had me there a couple laps near the finish." said Smith in victory lane. "It's fun to win in front of your home crowd on your home track. It's great to have this support." Smith officially announced his new bride Stephanie in victory lane, and his proclamation indicated that he now considers Chillicothe his home. Home is Sweet. He is 2-for-2 this year and 6-8 over the last several tries at the fast 3/8 mile dirt oval. At the drop of Daryl Owens' green flag in the sprint main, retro-Gambler Danny Smith and pole-sitter Jimmy Nier pulled dead even upon turn one entry. The dual continued down the back chute and into turns three and four, where Smith's momentum carried him across the line first. On the third circuit, rising star Cole Duncan tapped the front stretch wall and coasted to a stop in turn one. At the same time, front-runners Josh Davis and Ed Neumeister were smitten with mechanical woes and out of the race. Earlier, defending champ Nick Naber went to the infield still feeling the woes from a wild flip in the dash in the Billy Jarrell #22. It took just three laps for Danny Smith to blast off into the ozone as his string music played an upbeat melody to the tune of lapping cars within just three ultra-fast laps. Nier and Stinson tagged along, expressing their keen desire to lead. Ultimately, Smith lapped all but the top five cars. Smith pulled about six lengths ahead of Jimmy Stinson who had taken second over Nier. Nier, Stinson, and Schroeder battled wildly until Kirk Jefferies mount stalled. Schroeder nearly rode over the wheel of Nier who had to take evasive action on Jefferies. Nier's mount likewise came to a halt in the infield leaving Stinson and Schroeder to battle Smith for the win. Aaron Higgins again had a solid run and Hud Horton had a welcome back fourth place finish ahead of hard charger Mark Imler who stormed from 16th to 6th for hard-charger honors. Smith rode to victory lane ahead of Stinson, Butch Schroeder, Aaron Higgins, Hud Horton, Mark Imler, Eddie Slone, Dave Dickson, Keith Baxter, and Josh Yenser. Two different cars. Two different wins. Athens, Ohio Chris Stotts doesn't seem to matter what he is driving as long as it goes fast. "It's a different car, and a different color," Stotts joked in victory lane. "I didn't know exactly where I was at out there. I just knew there were cars on both sides, and didn't know if they were lapped or if they were trying to get by." Stotts wasn't joking about that. The last three laps went three-wide. K-C finishes seem to fit that mould in 2008. Words could not accurately describe just how wild the finish was. Stotts seemed to dominate the early going, then after a mid-race caution the rest of the pack reeled him in. Then the fight began. First Jeremy Rayburn took the lead on lap 17 and Doug Adkins dove under Stotts as well. Stotts recovered to pinch Buzzard Adkins into turn three, then got a break when Rayburn drifted high in turn four. Stotts dove low and regained the lead he had held for the 15 previous laps, then was able to hold off a charging Adkins at the finish. Stotts won last week in Jim Ashcraft's #22, but this week he put his own Carthage Auto Parts/S-8/ Pierce Chassis in victory lane. "The Pierce Chassis was what made the difference," Stotts asserted. Rounding out the top ten behind Stotts were Doug Adkins, Jeremy Rayburn, Joe Hunley, Miles Cook, Damon Taylor, Bob Crace, Jr., Craig Christian, Rick Hensley, and Fireball Pinkerton. The hard-charger of the race was Rick Hensley coming from 15th from 9th. Tommy Mossbarger took the early lead in the Hobby Stock main and was the lead engine in an 18-car freight train for much of the race. Aaron Chesser tried to leap-frog to the front as the duo approached lapped traffic. Former champ Jamey Adams then entered into the mix, sneaking unnoticed into the heat of the battle. The trio put on quite a show as Chesser edged by Mossbarger on lap ten. The triumvirate remained intact, but in a different order. Chesser began to billow smoke on the 12th circuit as Mossbarger drifted high and Adams nosed to the bottom for second. Chesser and Adams threaded the needle around lapped traffic on the white flag lap. Adams was able to carry the most momentum into the final turn and won a drag race to the finish for the victory, his second of the year. The Hard-Charger of the race was Nathan Preston who came from 16th to 11th. Rounding out the top ten behind Adams was Aaron Chesser, Tommy Mossbarger, Rob Smith, Aaron Forcum, Joe Buskirk, Jamie Dailey, Brandon Thompson, Tracey Ross, and Matt Holcomb. K-C resumes action next Saturday for a modified special paying $1,000 to win with Late Models and Hobby Stocks. There will be no Sprint cars May 17.

Hill leads green-to-checkers for Volunteer Speedway ‘Spring Fling’ Super Late Model victory

By Robert Walden

BULLS GAP, Tenn. (May 10) — With the weather finally beginning to feel like spring in the East Tennessee region, Vic “The Thrill” Hill of Morristown, a four-time (1997, ’98, 2000 and ’05) track champion, used the Pizza Plus “Spring Fling” Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway for what he hopes will be a springboard to several other race wins this season.

Hill, after clocking fast-time during qualifying by running a quick lap of 12.385-seconds to earn the pole position for the “Gateway Ford” Super Late Model feature, launched into the lead on the opening lap over fellow front-row starter Jeff Maupin. Once out front, it was all clear sailing for Hill as he set a blistering pace en route to leading from green-to-checkers, never seriously being challenged for the lead during the race.

With Hill on cruise control out front in the lead over Maupin, Bryan Hendrix was feeling pressure from Bobby Mays for the third position. Fifth-running Mike Smith had a rearview mirror full of Shane Roberts and Dale Ball. On the ninth lap, both Roberts and Ball got around Smith between the third and fourth turns to settle into the fifth and sixth spots, relegating Smith back to seventh in the running order. Ball passed Roberts to move into fifth place on lap 13 racing off turn two.

With Hill holding right at a three-quarters straightaway advantage over Maupin, the event’s first caution waved on lap 24 when John Tweed spun. Using the Delaware Double-File restart, Hill was all alone out front going back green, with Maupin and Hendrix side-by-side behind the race leader. Back up to speed, Mays got under Hendrix in turn two to take over third. The yellow waved once again on lap 26 when Brian Smith slowed after breaking a driveshaft on the high-side of turn two.

With the field lining up single-file during the last 10 laps of the main event, Hill, driving the Landair Transport Inc./Pilot Travel Centers/Marsh Propane/Qualcomm/Jerry’s Auto Salvage/Beamer’s Flooring Outlet/The Hightower Advertising Agency/VP Racing Fuel/Dan Estes Construction/Ohlins/Peterson Fluid Systems/Klushman Racing Components/Comp Cams/Edelbrock/CP Pistons/Brodix/Lunati Cranks/CV Racing Products/Joe Gibbs Performance Synthetic Racing Oil/Jesel/Manley/RaceQuest Motorsports/Vic Hill Racing Engines/Fastlane Signs & Graphics/Team GRT Race Cars/No. 1 Chevrolet Impala SS, sped away from Maupin, Mays, Hendrix and Roberts to capture the $1,500 victory.

Finishing sixth through tenth, respectively, were Michael Jackson, Smith, Tweed, Dempsey Harold Jr. and Ball.

“Finally, it’s about time we got us a win,” said a smiling Hill after climbing from his car in victory lane. “Not just here at Volunteer Speedway, but I’ve run strong every time out so far this year in events we’ve competed in, but we’ve not been around at the finish to seal the deal and get a victory. Just last week during the ‘Thunder” race (Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series) here at ‘The Gap,’ we had a good car — winning the fast dash to get the pole position for the main event. While running in third place we lost a right-rear wheel, knocking us out of the race after it messed some stuff up under the car once it (car) dropped down on the track.

“Hey, I’ve got to thank Stevie Collins, Joey Orr and Bud Orr for all they do back at the shop working on the car during the week … and here at the track on race night. Those guys all bust their butts, they do whatever it takes. My wife Christa, I want to thank her for all she contributes to my racing, along with the support of Marty Evans too. I’d also like to wish a happy Mother’s Day to my mom (Phyllis) and to my mother-in-law (Judy). Hopefully we can come back just as good as we were tonight next week and get us another win.”

For the second straight week lapped traffic hurt Dale Ball’s chances of winning a “Courtesy Chevrolet” Crate Late Model feature. Ball jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap feature over Greeneville’s Jeff Maupin, Jensen Ford, Steve Jones and Vic Chandler.

Divisional points leader Jones was looking to the inside of Ford between turns one and two on lap 7, trying to take over third in the running order, when slight contact was made and Jones dropped back losing two positions. Just one circuit later, Jones ran hard off into the first turn and looped his mount to bring the caution out.

Only one lap back green, the yellow waved once again for a mishap racing off the fourth turn involving Weston Gantte and Brent Hensley. While the field was under caution, Ford headed into the infield pits parking his ride with mechanical problems to end his race prematurely.

Back under green and with Ball still riding out front in the lead, trailed by Maupin, Chandler, Kelly Glass and R.J. Mayes, the action quickly heated up as Maupin was pressuring Ball for the point, while Glass was riding in Chandler’s rearview mirror. Glass made quick work of Chandler to move into third place, while Maupin kept looking to the low-side of Ball for the lead while Ball chose to run the high groove around the corners on both ends of the track.

The battle for the lead between Ball and Maupin was worth the price of admission for the night of racing all by itself. The duo raced side-by-side for three and a half laps before Ball momentarily pulled back ahead. Then on lap 18, while working lapped traffic, Ball got trapped behind slower cars and Maupin made what proved to be the race-winning move for the lead.

Maupin avoided making any mistakes over the remaining laps as he recorded his second Crate Late Model feature win of the season, with Glass getting around Ball in the last five laps of the race to finish in the runner-up position and Ball coming home in third. Fourth and fifth, respectively, were Chandler and Mayes.

“That’s just some good, hard racing we had there between myself and Dale (Ball),” said the race winner Maupin from victory lane. “I had a blast out there racing against Dale. He and I both know we can race door-to-door and keep it clean. My car was really good, but I needed to run several green flag laps to get some heat in the tires. I guess lapped traffic is a part of racing, and fortunately tonight everything fell right into place for us when I was able to make my move to take the lead when Dale got trapped in behind those slower cars. A win’s a win, I suppose. We ran well, though. I want to thank my car owner Casey Greenlee for letting me drive this Crate Late Model of his. It’s a really good car, make that a race-winning car.”

Riding out front in a “Rusty Wallace Toyota” Hobby Stock feature is a position Mike Hodges is quite familiar with, as he’s already visited victory lane three times this year. But the trouble is, you’ve got to lead all 20 laps before you can win the race.

With Hodges leading and Jonesborough’s Jon Cook in hot pursuit, while the leaders were working slower traffic on lap 14 as they raced off into the first turn Cook got into the rear of Hodges, spinning the leader to bring the caution out. With a clear track ahead and only six circuits remaining to the finish, Cook would not be denied his first victory of the season as he held off a hard-charging Dustin Shaver, Chuck Johnson, Roger Hunter and Dale Reed.

Stanley Donahoo of White Pine withstood early challenges for the lead in the IMCA Open Wheel Modified feature from Chris Brady to eventually pull away for the victory. Donahoo was chased to the checkers by Brady, Jimmy Dalton, Jerry Broyles and Aaron Ogle.

To say the 2008 racing season to date has been nothing but tough luck for Kevin Atwell of Rural Retreat, Va., would be an understatement. Even though he’s been a consistent front-runner, his problem has been finishing races. Finally solving engine problems that have sidelined him on three previous occasions, Atwell captured his first “Century 21 Masengill-McCrary Realtors” Mini Stock feature win over Shawn Henry, Ernie Stubblefield, Runah Henry and Terry Dean.

BLAIR TAKES A HOMETOWN WIN IN NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS A1 RACEWAY EVENT

SLIDELL, LA – Jay Blair of Angie, LA picked up his first NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series win of the season on Saturday at his home track, A1 Raceway, in the 50-lap main event driving the J&A Trucking Mastersbilt. The victory was Blair’s first top ten finish in the first six events of the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour season.

After starting eighth, Blair charged through the field to pass Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA for the lead on lap 18, and then led the remaining 33 laps of the race that was marred by 18 caution flags, and took almost an hour and a half to complete.

After being passed for the lead, Brindle dropped back to the fourth spot by lap 20, but came back late in the race to rally and finish second driving the CSC Trailer Repair/Brindle Brothers Auto Parts GRT. Brindle moved back on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings with his runner-up finish and a 14-point lead over Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA.

Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS took the third spot in the Boland Performance Trak Star. Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL finished fourth in the All Star Graphics GRT to earn the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Race Award. Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA made a last lap pass to claim the fifth position in the Hays Family Racing/Barto Enterprises Warrior.

Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year candidate Hunter Peacock of Macon, GA had an up and down night, but salvaged a sixth-place finish in the Nasworthy Mechanical Bullitt. Peacock took his second Pole Award of the season by out qualifying the 32 entrants with a lap around the ¼-mile clay oval in 14.765 seconds.

Peacock led the first six laps of the race, and fell back to the fourth spot. Peacock spun on a lap 15 restart, and had to restart on the tail of the field. Peacock raced his way back to the fifth spot, and was passed by Rainey for the position at the checkered flag.

Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL was seventh in the McLeod Construction TNT, and Tootie Arnold of Meadville, MS came back from a lap six spin and finished eighth in the Harahan Paint and Body GRT. Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA took the ninth spot in the Turner Excavating DWB, and Jason Hiett of Lincoln, AL rounded out the top ten in the N&N Motors GRT.

Peacock took the lead from his inside front row starting spot at the drop of the green flag followed by Boutwell, Brindle, Chris Tays of Corinth, MS in the Bud Coley Trucking Trak Star, and Keeton. Brindle passed Boutwell to move up to second on lap three, and then made an inside pass on Peacock on lap seven in turn three to take the lead.

Keeton passed Peacock for second on lap eight, and Blair came from the eighth starting spot to move past Peacock and take the third position on lap 10. Blair’s march to the point continued on a lap 14 restart, when he got under Keeton for second. On a lap 15 restart, Blair drove under Brindle to take the lead, but Peacock spun running fourth to negate the pass for the lead.

Blair continued his pursuit of Brindle on the next restart, and the top two cars raced hard for the next three laps until Blair sealed the deal on lap 18. Brindle pushed up the banking in turn two after a lap 19 restart, letting Keeton and Knowles by for second and third respectively.

There were wholesale position changes in the last ten laps of the race with six caution flags. The running order for the lap 40 restart had Blair leading Keeton, Brindle, Knowles, Tays, Peacock, Rainey, Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS in the Tiffin Motorhomes Mastersbilt, Boutwell and Frank Ingram, who took a provisional and started 23rd in the Dixon Hauling and Grading Rocket.

When the field went green, Knowles put the pressure on Brindle for third, and Peacock got by Tays for the fifth spot. Tays cut down a right-front tire in turn two on lap 44 to bring out the caution flag. Ingram’s run to the front ended on lap 46 when his car broke while he was running eighth. That earned Ingram the Dominator Hard Luck Award.

Brindle took the second spot away from Keeton on lap 48, but could not catch Blair, who took a popular hometown win, and moved into a tie for the fourth spot in the points chase with Tays.

Jamey Smith started 22nd and finished 13th to earn the Hard Charger of the Race Award, and the preliminary 15-lap Qualifying Races were won by Jason Warner of Franklinton, LA in the J&A Trucking Mastersbilt, and Ted Lackey of Munford, AL in the C.S. Beatty Construction Warrior.

The next two events for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be over the Memorial Day weekend. The first stop will be at Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, GA on May 23, and then on to Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA on May 24.

Morgan and Smith swapped the lead for three laps until Morgan took command on the 11th lap. Morgan finished the last lap in the lead over Smith in second. Third place went to Wes Alleman who picked up win earlier in the evening. Thunberg finished fourth with Paul Morgan in fifth. Heats were won by Chad Smith and Craig Morgan.

Travis Horan took the lead on lap nine with Broderick taking it back on the next lap. Horan took control of the top spot once again on lap 11 for the next six laps. Donnie’s father, Ray moved past Horan on the 17th lap and held on for his second victory of the season over Horan.
