Mark Smith and the Mach 1 Chassis #M1 completed the weekend URC sweep with his victory at Port Royal Speedway on Sunday Night May 29th. Fresh off his Kramer Cup victory less that 24 hours ago, Mark Smith drove away from the field enroute to his 2nd URC win of the year. Tim Moran

With 26 sprints signed in for action the program fell victim to rain at 5 pm.As a result of the rain out, Greg Hodnett has been declared the 2016 Bob Weikert Memorial champion after sweeping the Saturday and Sunday main events.   • 34 Raceway IA)Sunday, May 29 wrapped a two night Memorial Day weekend extravaganza at 34 Raceway with the Shottenkirk Sprint Invaders, Late Models and Vintage Cars.   • IRA Sprints)There was a time when it appeared the 50th Anniversary season for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints was going to grind to a halt courtesy of Mother Nature. Heading into a double header weekend the scheduled Friday night show at Oshkosh Speedzone fell to relentless rain. A similar fate hampered the scheduled event on Sunday evening at 141 Speedway. Late afternoon showers kept track crews busy, but due to their diligent efforts the show went on and fans were treated to a great late race showdown between Bill Balog and Scotty Thiel on the banked quarter-mile bullring.   • USCS)Brian Bell from Memphis, Tennessee chased down early race leader, Ernie Ainsworth from Bartlett, Tennessee and made the winning pass in mid-race of the the rain-delayed 25-lap USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters Speedweek Round #3 main event at Greenville Speedway on Sunday night.   • OCRS)After a week off due to the weather, the Ameri-Flex / OCRS sprint cars are back in action with a return to Lawton Speedway on Saturday.   • UMSS)The Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) and the Princeton Speedway are once again proud to be a part of the Billy Anderson Memorial race. This year will mark the 15th Annual running of this popular event for the winged sprint cars here in our area on Friday night June 3. The Billy Anderson Memorial is held each year as a tribute to honor the memory of sprint car driver Billy Anderson from Dayton, Minnesota. Billy was seriously injured in a racing accident at the Knoxville Raceway on June 13, 1998. Press Releases5/30
  • UMSS)Mike Botzek of Princeton has been a car owner and driver during his racing career, and each year the Billy Anderson Memorial race holds special meaning for Mike. Billy Anderson used to drive the B1st sprinter owned by Mike Botzek back in the 1990s. Mike currently owns one of the engines for the B1st Seidenkranz Brothers racing team with driver Tony Norem. Norem won the first-ever Billy Anderson Memorial while driving for Mike back in 2002. Press Releases5/30
  • UMSS)With rainy weather forcing the cancellation of the race at the Red Cedar Speedway on May 27, the two primary UMSS series sponsors, Midwest Power Equipment and GRP Motorsports, have decided to move the bonus money slated for Red Cedar to the Saturday night June 25 event at the Deer Creek Speedway. Midwest Power Equipment will be adding $1,500 to the top two finishing positions in the feature race while GRP Motorsports kicks in an extra $800 to positions three through seven. Elementary school children from three local schools (South Mountain Elementary, Monroe Elementary, and Newville Elementary) were challenged to race their way to excelling in math. By completing ten minutes of math problems, over ten days, they would receive two general admission tickets for their parents for School’s Out Night on June 17th, 3-D fireworks glasses, a mood changing pencil, and entry into a raffle for a free Kindle Fire (one given out at each school). A night after tipping over at Knoxville Raceway, he was the class of the field in sweeping the Sprint Invaders event Sunday night at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.   • Fremont Speedway OH)What a week for Kingsburg, California’s Kody Swanson. It started Thursday with a win in the Hoosier Hundred champ car race, continued Friday with a second place run behind his brother at the Carb Night Classic in a sprint car on the pavement in Brownsburg, Indiana. Saturday Kody would win the Little 500 on the pavement in Anderson, Indiana in a sprint car and ended the week with a victory Sunday on Fremont Speedway’s clay oval in a sprint car for the Mike Hensel Memorial Presented by Budweiser and Maple City Ice.   • Eldora Speedway OH)Christopher Bell started sixth and shot to the lead like from a cannon on his way to win the NRA Sprint Invaders portion of the Johnny Appleseed Classic by Miller Lite Sunday night at Eldora Speedway. Bell, who won last year’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora, made all the right moves through traffic to defeat Rico Abreu. Both are full-time in the Truck Series. Race Results 5/30
  • VSS)Virginia Sprint Series Race #8 Saturday May 28th 2016 IMCA RaceSaver Mid-Atlantic Division Natural Bridge Speedway Natural Bridge, Va. Brian Lawson Hot at Natural Bridge The first really hot and humid race of the season after mostly cold and windy race nights had Brian Lawson out front at the end. Heats kicked off the night with JD Coats taking his first ever and Jerald Harris winning the second. Coats and Bill Rice paced the field to the feature green with Rice out first riding his favorite high line. Daren Bolac was making ground up on Rice and on lap four he went to the lead but Brian Lawson was not far behind. Jerald Harris was coming in to the picture as Lawson got by Bolac for the top spot on lap nine and Harris was second at half way. The front two were really going at it but Harris could only get close as Lawson went under the checkered flag for his first win of the season. At the line it was Brian Lawson, Jerald Harris, Tom Humphries, Daren Bolac, Bill Rice, Anthony Linkenhoker, JD Coats, Glenn Worrell, French Grimes, Josh Perreault and Ron Moyers. Next week its back to Shenandoah Speedway on Saturday night June 4th 5/30
  • Port Royal Speedway PA)Greg Hodnett used a late race restart to make a two-car pass and sweep into the lead and win worth $10,000 in Sunday night’s second round of the 2016 Port Royal Speedway Bob Weikert Memorial Sprint Car Series. The victory was the second for Hodnett at the speedplant in 24 hours after he took round on worth $5,000 on Saturday night to start the three-day show that ends on Memorial Day evening. Adding his 13th win of the year in a four-race set in the weekend previous to last week’s Indianapolis 500 practice and qualifying festivities, the “Circular Insanity” pursuit of 200 races is up to 56.   • Robbie Stillwaggon)Robbie Stillwaggon and the Quality Auto Body #89 brought home an 19th place finish on Tuesday night. Stillwaggon who has mainly focused his attention on the 360 ranks and bringing a 2nd United Racing Club Championship home in 2016, brought out his 410 for only the 2nd time this year. Stillwaggon timed 21st fastest in the 32 car field. Starting 6th in the first heat and with the World of Outlaws taking 5 directly to the feature even, Stillwaggon knew he had to gain 1 position to not have to run the B-Main event. Stillwaggon brought home the 89 in the 5th position, automatically transferring to the World of Outlaws feature event. In the feature event, Stillwaggon started in the 17th position, with a 1 lane track for most of the feature, Stillwaggon managed an 19th place finish. Stillwaggon and crew will now turn their attention back to the 360 ranks and a 2 race weekend. Saturday night, Stillwaggon will be looking to defend his Kramer Cup win from last year. The annual event is held in honor of the fallen Kramer Williamson and the race is coveted by every United Racing Club racer.   • Davie Franek)Davie "No Panic" Franek loaded up his 410 and headed south to the New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday night. The Franek Auto Sales #28f held its own against some of the best sprint car drivers and cars in the country. Franek timed 20th out of the 32 cars signed into the pit area. With a one grove track, Franek lined up 5th in the 4th heat race. With the World of Outlaws advancing 5 out of the heat races, Franek maintained his position and advanced into the night feature event. Starting 20th in the feature, Franek battled his way up to the 16th position passing the likes of Logan Schuchart (2nd place finisher at Weedsport on Sunday night), Jason Sides, and Lucas Wolfe along the way. Franek will now turn his attention to the 360 ranks this weekend with a double URC racing weekend. Saturday night at the Selinsgrove Speedway will be the annual Kramer Cup Memorial Race, a race that Franek would love to win in honor of the long time URC competitor Kramer Williamson.   • Cottage Grove Speedway OR)One of the biggest 360 Sprint Car races in the Western United States will get going this weekend at Oregon’s Cottage Grove Speedway. Sprint Car teams from all over the country are expected to make the journey to the historical ¼-mile clay oval for the Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic presented by Body Works Salon and Marvin Smith Auto Repair. The racing will be a two day affair beginning on Saturday May 28th and concluding on Sunday the 29th. A special FREE admission is being offered for Ladies eighteen or older on Saturday night. Nonetheless, it was another strong performance turned in by the Grain Valley, Missouri driver. Williamson succumbed to injuries he sustained in a sprint car racing accident at the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown in August of 2013. With numerous teams and fans traveling from outside of Pennsylvania as part of the Empire Super Sprint contingent scheduled to compete at Selinsgrove, the announcement was made at 12 p.m. Saturday as a courtesy. Fans that purchased grandstand tickets will be able to redeem their tickets for reentry at the track on Thursday, while fans that purchased pit passes and received a pit band are asked to keep their bands on for tomorrow night to gain reentry into the pits.
