Charles A. Wilson, 71, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 19, 2023 in his home. Chuck was born November 27, 1951 in Toledo, Ohio to Kenneth and Margaret (Watterson) Wilson. On April 12, 1992, Chuck married Christine Pifer. Chuck worked in automotive aftermarket sales for over 40 years; recently with Ft. Meigs Auto and Schrader Tire & Oil. However, Chuck would tell you his true profession was being a racecar driver. Piloting Tom and Christy Dunkel’s #17R Inland Rigging / Dunkel Farms DRC, Roa earned the fourteenth series win of his career and the first for his brand new car owners in their first ever USAC/CRA event. “KTJ” Kevin Thomas Jr., Malcolm, “The Cadillac” Cody Williams, and “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. followed Brody to the checkered flag. The Colby, Kan. racer has teamed up with North Carolina-based CB Industries for the upcoming season slate after competing for Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports since 2020.   • Wilmot Raceway WI)The Kenosha County Fair’s Wilmot Raceway will have a new look to go with their exciting schedule. The third-mile clay oval will have completed a major offseason project when the gates open on opening night May 6th, as new aluminum bleachers will have been installed. The new bleachers were constructed in a manner that has the entire bleacher elevated on risers, and the entire bleacher comes with seat backs. The schedule itself has a great mix of specials, and is the only track in the region that hosts dates with the World of Outlaw, All Star, IRA, USAC, and MSA Sprint cars, plus Dirt King Late Models, and Badger Midgets too.   • NARC)The Northern Auto Racing Club rolled out its 2023 sprint car rulebook which features safety, equipment and format changes. On the safety side of the racing business, fire suppression systems are required on every car by May 1st, and rock screens are required beginning at the NARC season opener on March 18th at Silver Dollar Speedway. Following the sad announcement that Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane will close this year, with June 3 being the last event, Eastern Creek Speedway in Sydney is honoured to be hosting the 26th running of the Australian Sprintcar Open. The event will be held over two nights on January 12 and 13 in 2024 and will continue the tradition of the race. It will follow the Sydney Sprintcar Royale weekend of January 5 and 6. Six weeks ago, the management team at the speedway announced that the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series would invade the York Haven, Pa., facility for the first time in 30 years. But that was only part of the equation. Speedway owner Scott Gobrecht and General Manager Kolten Gouse wanted to up the ante and revamped the schedule, adding 10 more 410 Sprint Car dates.   • Eldora Speedway OH)The richest sprint car race in history, paying a million dollars to win, the addition of the Dirt Track World Championship, the return of the Superstar Racing Experience plus the 40th Kings Royal, the 53rd World 100, and the 29th Late Model Dream highlight the 2023 schedule for Eldora Speedway’s 70th anniversary season.   • I-35 Speedway MO)Save the Dates! The 2023 I-35 Speedway schedule is ready, set, and ticking down to go! Practice March 4 and March 11, with the Ice Buster presented by Racin’ Dirt on March 18. The Ice Buster is the first of three specials for the year the others being the USAC Midwest Wingless Sprints (MWRA) on June 17 and September 2. The weekly classes will be the USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, and USRA B Mods, along with the Limited Late Models, the Pure Stocks, the E Mods, and the Sport Compacts. Besides the Wingless Sprint Cars additional visiting classes will include the Show Me Vintage Racers and the POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints. You will also notice the Vintage Open Class. The Vintage Open class is for those who race in the various Vintage classes throughout the area. If you own a vintage car and are not competing with your vintage club on those Saturday nights this class is racing at I-35 Speedway, you will be welcome to come race. These Vintage Open nights are just more opportunities for the Vintage drivers to race. Additionally, more great news for this class there will be a vintage purse paid. Unleash those old coupes, sedan, and racecars from years past let them race! So, if you are racer get those racecars rock and roll race ready. If you are race fan mark those calendars.
